What Is Second Life?
Second Life is a virtual online community where once signed, you become a resident of this online community. You are represented by a personalized 3-D avatar.
Developed by Lindon Lad and launcehd on June 23, 2003
Once a member you can move in many different ways to many different 3-D locations.
Unlike Many other computer games, Second Life does not have any objectives or goals, there is no winning or losing.
Second life offers an almost infinite amount of different activities to it’s residents from shopping, to clubbing or even starting your own business.
In second life you can never truly die. In any dangerous scenario you will have a health meter. This can expire, but your avatar will never lose it’s inventory.
Although Second Life caters only to 18 plus, it has a sister program called Teen Second Life, which is for users between the ages of 13 and 17.
Cons of second life
because able to customize avatar can add own persona (unlike "real world" existence) which may give fake impression of self
not entirely free (basic account free)
have to be age 18 or older
need xp or vista to run program (others programs do not apply)
Pros of second life
ability to explore, meet new people (all around the world), entertain (full of experiences and opportunities)
differ from other online role playing games
1. creativity (unlimited freedom)
2. ownership (basically free, unless choose to own land ro live, work, build on)
stay anonymous if choose to
